ICJ KENYA
20 August 2009 PRESS RELEASE
The Civil Society of the Year Awards (CSOYA) Committee on Friday 14th August 2009 awarded the CSOYA 2009 Governance and Management Award Category to the Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya). ICJ Kenya emerged the overall winner in this category.
Some of the reasons why ICJ Kenya was given this Award were:
· ICJ Kenya has over the years established a strong and active Governing Council with appropriate skills to lead the growth of the organization.
· ICJ Kenya has continued to develop and institutionalize clear and effective management and reporting structures, policies and procedures that guide the operations of the organization and have facilitated a strong performance culture of the organization.
ICJ Kenya also emerged 2nd in the Financial Management Category. This goes further to show ICJ Kenya’s commitment to sound Financial systems, policies and procedures.
As the ICJ Kenya celebrates 50th Anniversary this year, these Awards will go along way in shaping the way we work, and relate to our stakeholders. ICJ Kenya is grateful to the Civil Society of the Year Awards (CSOYA) Committee for the Awards. ICJ Kenya would like to thank all its members and partners who have given support over the year, without which these awards would not have been possible.
ICJ Kenya recognizes that these awards are a culmination of the efforts that have been put in place by the successive groups of people that have had the opportunity to work for or lead ICJ Kenya. While some may still be involved with ICJ Kenya, others have moved on. The Council of ICJ Kenya therefore takes this opportunity to recognize past Chairmen, Council for their contribution and commitment to the ideals of ICJ Kenya which have contributed to the establishment of stability and sound management within the organization. The past Chairmen include; Judge Lee Muthoga, Mr. Charles Nyachae, Prof. Githu Muigai, Mr. Kathurima M’Inoti, Mr. Mohammed Nyaoga and Mr. Otiende Amollo. The Council also recognizes the efforts of the successive members of staff who have worked very hard over the years to maintain high standards of transparency and accountability, leading to a very strong Secretariat.
