The project goal is to provide leadership and support in defining, elaborating and advancing substantive principles of constitutionalism and the rule of law in a constitution making and follow through process. Constitutional principles are elaborated prior to data collection, collation and analysis. The principles are used as guidelines for debate and building consensus on the issues. Examples of activities: - The ICJ Kenya Constitutional Memorandum to the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission
- The ICJ Kenya Petition to the Chief Justice in regard to suit instituted by two High Court Judges seeking an injunction to bar the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission from making recommendations on judicial reform in the Draft Bill of the Constitution of Kenya
- Constitutional litigation on the human/wildlife conflict arising from cases of humans being killed and their crops destroyed by wild animals in areas bordering national parks.
- Membership to the Basic Rights Campaign which advocates for the facilitation for citizens to access clean water, education, health services and other basic amenities through constitutional provisions
- Participation and Monitoring of the National Constitutional Conference in Bomas of Kenya

As part of achieving its mandate, ICJ Kenya periodically seeks to lobby for legislation that will facilitate policy and institutional changes to enhance democratic governance. Examples of these projects are the Freedom of Information Project and the Refugee Bill Project. Through the freedom of information project ICJ Kenya has gained valuable links with government, parliament and the media. |

The Jurist of the Year Award is an annual award that seeks to give recognition, acknowledgement and encouragement to jurists who have consistently, fearlessly and impartially promoted the rule of law and human rights in Kenya during the year. The award has been given out on the 10th December each year since 1993 to commemorate and honour the United Nations International Human Rights Day. As an advocacy tool to motivate jurists who engage in human rights work, the Jurist of the Year Award has no equal in the country. |
