ICJ Kenya Presentation on Vetting and Public Participation

on .

ICJ Kenya collaborated with Transparency International, Kenya, to put on a training workshop for CSOs in Eldoret on December 14, 2011.  The workshop was to focus on the Vetting of Judges and Magistrates Act, with a view to building community capacity, and empowering public participation in the vetting process, which is slated to begin early in 2012.

Working with a group of about 30 different grassroots CSOs from and around Eldoret, ICJ Kenya and TI Kenya discussed issues of judicial reform, public participation, and civic empowerment in the context of the vetting processes.  The forum was a success, and hopefully will go a long way towards keeping the grassroots CSOs involved in the upcoming institutional reforms in 2012, maintaining positive ties between ICJ Kenya and community organizations and leaders, and will ultimately lead to the reconstruction of the Judiciary as a pillar of government that is strong, independent and acts with integrity.
