Members' Forum
ICJ Kenya will on 17th August 2010 hold a Members’ Forum to chart the way forward towards an effective and efficient implementation of the proposed constitution of Kenya. The Members forum will be held at the Norfolk Hotel starting from 8.30 to 2.00pm.
The Overall Objective will be to consolidate views and proposals on the most effective and efficient manner of implementing the Proposed Constitution of Kenya
A. The specific Objectives
a) To review the just concluded national Referendum of August 4th 2010 and propose a way forward for a more efficient electoral system and process and more specifically
i) To review the campaign, voting, counting, tallying and announcement process
ii) To review the exercise of citizens political rights in a free and fair environment devoid of violence and intimidation
iii) To enable the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to be a more efficient and effective in the 2012 environment
b) To consolidate views and proposals on effective and efficient implementation of the reform and re-establishment of the Judiciary, more specifically
i) Establishment of the Judicial Service Commission
ii) Establishment of the Office of the Chief Justice
iii) The vetting of judges
B. Modus Operandi And Communiqué
The Jurists presenting will keep the presentations short and succinct to allow members time to incisively delve into the matters raised by the presentations and as per the objectives herein.
The Think Tank session shall be in two separate sessions as shown by the Objectives above.
The output of this Sessions shall be a Members Communiqué issued by the ICJ Kenya membership to the Government of Kenya, concern State Agencies and the People of the new Republic.
The Communiqué will offer guidance of the restructuring of the said institutions in terms of process (of the reestablishment of the offices) and content (of those who should serve in the said offices). Members are encouraged to attend.
