Mr. Pheroze Nowrojee, 1995
Mr. Pheroze Nowrojee was born in Nairobi in 1939. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar. He is also a barrister of Lincoln's Inn and holds a B.A. from St. Xavier's College. He attained a LL.M. from Yale in 1974.
He has received multiple awards including the International Bar Association (IBA) Bernard Simons Human Rights Prize 2002, and was inducted to the Roll of Honour of the Law Society of Kenya in 2005. In 2007 he was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award by the Republic of India. He has been a Lecturer of Law at the University of Dar es Salaam, the University of Nairobi, and the Kenya School of Law, and he was also the Editor of the Eastern Africa Law Review.
He has published poetry, and numerous articles on law, history and politics. He is the author of Pio Gama Pinto, Patriot for Social Justice. He is the Chair of the Asian African Heritage Trust and of its Exhibition at the National Museums of Kenya, Nairobi. Also, he has been on the boards of several human rights organizations. He is the recipient of the International Commission of Jurists (Kenya) Jurist of the Year Award 1995.
