Mr. Lee Muthoga (1988-1991)
Judge Lee Muthoga SC was the Chairman of ICJ Kenya from 1988 to 1991. He currently serves as ad litem Judge for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). He joined the ICTR in October 2003 in Trial Chamber II. He also sits as chair of the Tribunal’s Case Management Committee.
Judge Muthoga was an Advocate and Senior Counsel practicing before the High Court of Kenya and has been in private practice since 1971. He was a founding partner in the firm of Muthoga Gaturu Advocates. He has previously held the offices of Chairman of the Law Society of Kenya, President of the African Bar Association, Chairman of the African Forum of the International Bar Association, and Chairman of the African Network for Prevention of and Protection Against Child Abuse and Neglect. He was also Founder-Director of the Public Law Institute and Director of Liberty International. He was enrolled in the Law Society of Kenya Roll of Honour in 2007.
Judge Muthoga holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of East Africa and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Fellow of Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPS (K)). He has published various papers on criminal justice and human rights.
