ICJ Council

ICJ Kenya is managed under a Constitution by a Governing Council of seven members elected for two terms during an Annual General Meeting of members. The Council comprises the Chairperson, Vice-chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and three non-office bearers and each can only serve for a maximum of two terms.

The principle role of the Council is to provide a strategic framework within which the ICJ Kenya secretariat executes programmes/projects. The secretariat staff are professional people employed on equal opportunity basis.

Mr. George Kegoro, Executive Director, ICJ Kenya

Mr. George Kegoro Mr. George Kegoro was appointed the new Executive Director with effect from 15th January 2007.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Kegoro was the Chief Executive of the Law Society of Kenya between 1998 - 2006, where he was responsible for all matters of administration and financial management.

Mr. Njonjo Mue, Council Member

Mr Njonjo Mue To date Mr. Mue is the youngest recipient of the JOY award in 2000. Mr. Mue received the award for his work in advocating for the freedom of expression, speech and of the media.

At the time, he was working with the South Africa-based Article 1 which works towards enhancing freedom of expression worldvide in line with the provisions of Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Mr. Mue has written on human rights Issues and worked human rights, the rule of law and democracy issues at regional and intemational levels.
